The point system is a part of the criteria Canada uses to accept immigrants. It dates back to 1967 and applies only to economic immigrants. Canada is using this system because they need to find skilled workers.Economic immigrants make up the biggest immigrant group of Canada, refugees and family-class don't have to qualify under the point system to be accepted as an immigrant but if a person is not a refugee or family-class they must take the point system tests.
